“Gen Z spent more time talking on Tinder as 19% more messages were sent per day in February 2021, compared to February 2020,” according to Tinder’s press release. “And conversations have been 32% longer during the pandemic. Members also updated their bios more often to fuel the conversation, with Gen Z updating their bios almost 3x more often than before the pandemic and still 2x more often than Millennials.”

Online dating hookups are a mix of hits and misses

While online dating apps have fueled connections during the pandemic, Tinder found that at least 40% of Gen Z users plan to continue using online dating apps post-pandemic. Margo told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that she has a better way to meet men. “You can find the really cute boys down by the river. Like a nice day of drinking… like let’s hang out! she laughed during an interview.

But Margo and others see dating apps as another avenue for making connections. TikToker Niki Patton offered her insight into online dating.

“I think it’s actually a really fun way to meet new people in general. Not necessarily people I’m interested in romantically,” she told Bustle. friends, and we were like, ‘Let’s go on Tinder and Bumble for some fun.’ It’s just a game. I know most people [my age] don’t take it too seriously.
