Shane Warne was a larger-than-life character who will be remembered as much for his off-pitch charisma as his on-pitch magic.
Shane Warne lived an illustrious life that was brimming with both cricketing greatness and a celebrity status usually reserved for Hollywood actors and rockstars.
In the years since the breakup of Warne’s 10-year marriage to Simone Callahan, with whom he shared three children, the spinner star was linked with a string of glamorous, high-profile women.
News of his death shocked the world on Saturday morning after he was found unconscious in a Thai villa, suffering from a suspected heart attack.
Warne and Callahan married in 2005 and dated for a decade before splitting shortly before the 2005 series Ashes.
In an interview on Fox Cricket over the summer, Warne explained that the breakdown of his marriage was the “lowest” moment of his life.
“Getting a divorce was a tough time in my life and for my kids — and it was my fault,” Warne said. “So I have to live with that for the rest of my life…it wasn’t easy.
“A week before the Ashes series to do that, then I have to drag myself off the canvas and go out and play in 2005, play against a quality English team… to have the Barmy Army for six hours a day, not just 10 minutes , singing songs, singing ‘Where did your wife go?’
“It was the lowest point of my life and then I had to go out and play an Ashes series, so it was really tough.”
Despite reported attempts to mend the relationship, Callahan and Warne were unable to reconcile and the cricketing icon embarked on a series of high profile relationships with other women.
Between 2011 and 2013, he dated British actress Liz Hurley and spontaneously proposed to her on James Packer’s boat in 2011.
In Warne’s autobiography, Without the spin cyclehe described their relationship as the “happiest years of my life”.
They broke up before walking down the aisle, with the romance eventually “fading away.” Warne said there was “no single clear reason” why their relationship ended.
Hurley was suspected of landing a lead role in a TV series The Royals played a big role due to the new demands of his time and how little they saw each other.
Warne also reportedly dated model, DJ and reality TV contestant Emily Scott, with their relationship ending in September 2014 after a few months.
In May of that year, Warne tweeted: “Wow, 8 years of friendship, a full moon party and attending a homie’s 50th turn into us dating? What’s next, knees!”
Although their relationship was brief, it was long enough for her to have her own scandal or two. In July 2014, Warne was photographed with Sophie Monk, but he strenuously denied that anything romantic was going on between the pair.
Warne has previously confessed to using Tinder to meet women, and in 2015 met a single mother named Kim McGrath.
In 2016, Warne reportedly dated American student Kathryn Long, who was in her early 20s.
The same year he was linked to Simone Toon, 24, and also took to social media to accuse someone of tipping off the paparazzi when he arrived at Brynne Edelsten’s home for a ‘last glass” at 1 a.m. after a charity event.
“After a fun night raising money for breast cancer in Geelong last night, me and a few friends and Brynne Edelsten went out for a few drinks,” Warne wrote on social media at the time.
“Brynne then invited me to her house around 1am for a nightcap, when I arrived paparazzi were waiting outside her house to take the picture, coincidence? I left instantly and thought how great that was. was sad!
In 2017, Warne was romantically linked to model Emily Sears, with the couple spotted together at a restaurant in Los Angeles.
They reportedly started dating in March 2017 and were more serious in June.
Sears shared his grief over Warne’s death on Saturday morning, posting on Instagram: ‘Woke up to the horrible news RIP Shane Warne, you were a great mate and a legendary Aussie. I’m in shock and heartbroken. I have no words right now #ripshanewarne.
Warne has also been linked to British actress Kate Beckinsale, who he was spotted flirting with online earlier this year, doling out multiple likes on his posts.
In response to a video of her standing in the rain without an umbrella, he wrote, “You’re hilarious!!!!” with a laughing crying emoji.
The actor did not appear to respond to any of her advances and his comment has since been deleted.
He was also spotted commenting on a photo of Love Island contestant Lucie Donlan after her stint on the show in 2019.
“You crushed it,” he wrote in response to a photo of Donlan – who is younger than his eldest daughter – wearing lingerie.
Warne reportedly found himself in Coronation Street actor Oliver Mellor’s bad books after he repeatedly texted his fiancée, Rhian Sugden, in 2016.
He had apparently “harassed” her several times asking her to meet, The sun reported.
