Man used dating apps to target mothers and children: police

A 42-year-old married man used dating apps to find mothers so he could join their children, Texas authorities said.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Epifanio Jimenez would find “women with children” through the apps and then ask “to spend time with them and their children.”

He was taken into custody on March 15 and charged with aggravated child molestation following an investigation into the assault of a 13-year-old girl.

The girl, who is now 17, told her school counselor that she was raped by Jimenez in 2017.

Police say Jimenez did not meet the 13-year-old through an app. However, during this investigation, they determined that he may be using dating apps to target young girls by connecting with their mothers.

Investigators also found that Jimenez was “on probation outside of Galveston County for online solicitation of a minor,” Lt. Scott Spencer said at a press conference Tuesday, according to Click2Houston.

He was indicted in 2018 and sentenced to six years probation over the matter.

The sheriff’s office is now looking for other potential victims.

“Based on some of the evidence, through digital evidence, we believe there may be other victims out there that Mr. Jimenez could have harmed,” Spencer said according to KHOU-TV.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have met Jimenez – who goes by the name “Harley” on his dating app profile – or allowed him to have contact with their children to call the Sheriff’s Office in Montgomery County at 936-760-5800 and reference case #2. 22A067965.

Jimenez is currently being held in Montgomery County Jail on $100,000 bond.
