Grimes says she got hackers to shut down a blog she didn’t like

Need more proof than indie sleaze is back fashionable? Look no further than Claire “Grimes” Boucher’s bold claim that she was the person behind hipster runoffThe 2012 hack.

In a new video interview with vanity loungeBoucher revealed, among other salacious information, that after a man on stage’s infamous and anonymous blog posted a mean message about him, she asked an anonymous hacker friend to launch a denial attack. distributed service (DDoS) on the site as revenge.

The post in question was, to be fair, quite rude. It featured a Mark the Cobrasnake-esque photo of Grimes kissing a friend at a party (although it appears to have been taken by Montreal night photographer Merlin Bronques) and hastily explained that she had “gone crazy.” It happened a full decade before the Canadian-born artist went queer and happened towards the end of an era where bisexuality was still considered a party thing than a true sexual identity.

“Back then, like before the revival era, I was canceled for this,” Boucher said of the photo. “I was trying to be like, all integrity, and start my career, and it was like ‘Grimes Gone Wild’ or something, and it was just like that, great wack, mean story, and it was like this meme that was going all over the internet.

While the artist thankfully avoided incriminating her hacker friend by naming the company he works for or the type of technology he “had access to,” she divulged enough to make the story believable.

“We were actually able to DDoS hipster runoffGrimes said, referring to the common hacking tool of creating fake traffic to overwhelm a site’s servers, “and, uh, basically blackmail them.”

“We were like, we’re not going to let you put your site back up until you delete the story,” she added. “And [the anonymous Hipster Runoff founder “Carles”] actually deleted the story, and it was like my coolest hacking moment.

Another detail that adds credulity to Boucher’s story is the fact that hipster runoffwhich ran from 2007 to 2013, was actually hacked and temporarily taken offline in 2012. Although the site resurfaced after the hack, everyone knows it was never quite the same.

Because no one who knows the identity of “Carles” has spoken about who he is in the decade since hipster runoff closed, it’s nearly impossible to corroborate whether Grimes was actually responsible for the hack that killed the website. But in the world of Claire Boucher, who would have two children with Elon Musk and would now be in a relationship with the famous leaker Chelsea Manning, anything is possible.
