‘Celebrity Dating Game’ Comes to ABC in 2021 Hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton

ABC has revived many classic game shows in recent years. Now they add a Seduction game restart to the list. Hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton, The Celebrity Dating Game will put a fun twist on the iconic mid-60s show. We’ve got a few details for you below, so keep reading for more.

First thing to do: a reminder on the original Seduction game

If you weren’t there in the mid 60s / early 70s, or heck, even the 90s, then you probably don’t know the show that The Celebrity Dating Game is based on.

The original Seduction game Aired on ABC from 1965 to 1973. It then aired in syndication for an additional year. Since 1974, there have been 3 other union takeovers: 1978-1980; 1986-1989; 1996-1999.

The principle of the game was to help the candidates find love. Traditionally, the bachelorette would sit behind a partition, and ask questions to 3 singles. Then, based solely on the answers to these questions, she chose whoever she wanted to date.

Sometimes the roles were reversed: a man chose between 3 women according to the same parameters. Now, the 2021 revival won’t be the first time celebrities have made appearances on the game show.

There have been a few occasions when celebrities have stood in the shoes of the “single” or “single” and ask questions on behalf of themselves, a colleague, a relative or a friend. Some people appeared on the show before they were famous, including Steve Martin and Farrah Fawcett. There were even others who arrived after hitting hard, like Sally Field and Michael Jackson.

So what’s going on The Celebrity Dating Game look like?

According to ABC’s official press release, The Celebrity Dating Game will have that classic feel of the original show, but with fun twists. First of all, singles and / or singles will all have celebrity or Hollywood status. TV actors / actresses, movie stars, reality TV personalities, etc. are all on the list – and most importantly – are all single and looking for love.

Of course, in a nod to the 60s / 70s vibe, the new show’s title card is styled in hippie fashion. You can see it below courtesy of Sony Pictures Television, the company associated with the show.

Another quick change, each episode will feature two celebrities who will each choose their match between the 3 singles / bachelorettes. But that’s not all: the identity of the celebrity will remain a secret for their dates! That is, until Michael Bolton sings some clues to help contestants figure it out.

In addition to co-hosting alongside Zooey Deschanel, Michael Bolton is producing The Celebrity Dating Game. Fans will know Zooey from his roles in New girl, (500 summer days, and ELF. Michael Bolton was the frontman of the band Blackjack and recorded his own hard rock / heavy metal music in the 70s and 80s.

Variety added that there will be 8 one-hour episodes and the filming of the show in Los Angeles, California. There’s no announced premiere date yet, but it’s “coming soon” on ABC.
